Beginning and Refresher Crochet

Whether you are an absolute beginner or someone who learned to crochet in the past but has forgotten how, this class is for you!  We start at the beginning, looking at tools and materials, learn to make the chain, slip stitch, single, half-double, double and treble stitches, read patterns and follow diagrams.  You will complete a dishcloth, scarf, granny squares and start on an additional project.  $10 cash supply fee collected by the instructor the first night of class to cover the costs of printing comprehensive crochet reference documents and some patterns for use in class. Please bring the following supplies to the first class: crochet hook, size H/8 (5mm); at least 2 ounces of worsted weight crochet cotton yarn (such as Sugar & Cream) in a light color, this type of yarn will have a paper band with the "#4 medium" written on it; a small amount of light colored acrylic (leftovers are fine); knitting markers or safety pins; scissors.  Additional hooks and yarn will need to be purchased as the class progresses however that will be discussed in class.

Judy Goebel

Judy Goebel worked for many years in the computer software industry where she consulted with many corporations on how to get the most out of their software investment. She also spent time managing a national customer support hotline. She has a weakness for technology. Since retirement, she has become a fiber artist, working in a variety of mediums including needle felting, hand spinning, coiled baskets and bias weaving. She teaches fiber techniques at the Weavers’ Guild of Minnesota and North Country Fiber Fair and both fiber techniques and Android in several Community Education programs. She has won awards at the Minnesota State Fair for handspun yarn and coiled baskets. Judy is particularly interested in exploring traditional art and craft techniques integrating them with modern equipment and materials. Judy has two blogs about bias weaving, a technique she uses in her work:
